The Shared Responsibility of Flight Command
In commercial aviation, the Flight Dispatcher shares joint responsibility with the Airline Pilot-in-Command for the operational control, flight planning, route dispatch, fuel calculation, and overall safety of each flight. Without a licensed dispatcher's signature on the flight release, an airliner cannot legally push back from the gate.
At Waypoint Aviation Academy Inc., our curriculum goes beyond textbook memorization. We simulate realistic airline Operations Control Center (OCC) workflows, abnormal weather deviations, and dynamic in-flight decision making so you are ready on Day One.
Course Specifications
The 13 Core Curriculum Modules
An extensive technical syllabus formulated to give you deep mastery in aeronautical theory, operations control, and practical flight release.
Aerodynamics & Principles of Flight (POF)
Forces acting on an aircraft in flight, lift and drag generation, airfoil geometry, stalling characteristics, and atmospheric flight physics.
Aircraft Systems & Instruments
Modern transport category aircraft architecture: propulsion, flight deck avionics, electrical, hydraulic, pressurization, and fuel feed systems.
Human Factors (HF) & DRM
Dispatcher Resource Management (DRM), Threat and Error Management (TEM), pilot-dispatcher communication, workload balance, and stress mitigation.
Air Law & Civil Regulations
Philippine Civil Aviation Regulations (PCAR), ICAO Annexes, airworthiness directives, operational certificates, and regulatory compliance.
Aviation Meteorology
Decoding METAR, SPECI, TAF, SIGMET, high-level significant weather prognosis, tropical cyclones, jet streams, icing, and wind shear analysis.
Air Traffic Control (ATC) Procedures
Airspace classification, flight route clearances, ATC radar separation standards, holding patterns, departure/arrival procedures, and slot coordination.
Aeronautical Communications
Radio telephony phraseology, CPDLC (Data Link), ACARS messaging protocols, VHF/HF communications, and international emergency distress frequencies.
Aircraft Weight & Balance
Calculating center of gravity (CG), moment arms, index calculations, zero fuel weight (MZFW), maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), and stability limits.
Aircraft Performance
Takeoff and landing field length calculations, obstacle clearance criteria, en-route engine-out drift-down profiles, and Cost Index (CI) cruise speed regimes.
Navigation (VFR, IFR & PBN)
Aeronautical chart reading, waypoint navigation, en-route airways, GNSS/GPS, Inertial Reference Systems (IRS), and Performance-Based Navigation (RNAV/RNP).
Flight Planning & Practical Dispatch
Manual and computerized flight planning, en-route fuel burns, alternate aerodrome selection, weather briefing, NOTAM interpretation, and formal flight release.
Security & Emergency Procedures
Emergency response action plans, unpredicted in-flight diversions, hijacking and bomb threat protocols, cabin decompression, and crisis coordination.
Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)
ICAO and IATA classifications of hazardous cargo, packaging, marking, labeling, segregation, passenger baggage limitations, and spill emergencies.
Flight Dispatcher Recurrent Training (Annual Refresher)
Mandatory annual refresher ground school formulated for licensed Flight Operations Officers (FOO) and commercial airline OCC dispatchers. Designed to maintain regulatory currency, master updated PCAR amendments, review high-threat weather case studies, and refine crew resource coordination.
